What We Do

You-net’s work focuses on three key programme areas. These include: capacity building, research and advocacy. Some of our key projects undertaken include:

• President’s Youth Dialogue
This project was initiated by you-net in 2013 to create opportunity for youth leaders to directly interact with the president of Ghana and discuss issues affecting youth development.

• Youth and Constitution Review; Agenda for Change
This project involved nation-wide consultations with young people and the Constitution Review Commission (CRC) 1992 Constitution. This culminated in a national youth mini consultation with the CRC and the presentation of a memorandum reflecting youth concerns to the commission.

• Youth Leadership Training
This training programme has been a tremendous success for the past ten years and has churned out many politicians, journalists and youth activists.

• Party Youth Wing Training
This project has had a great impact on the youth wing leaders of political parties leading to the formation of the Inter-Party Youth Committee as key platform where youth leaders of various political parties in Ghana work to promote peaceful elections in Ghana. 

• Youth for Peace in Mining Communities
This project was executed in the mining communities in the Brong Ahafo Western Regions where the capacities of leaders of community youth groups was built to engage with mining companies peacefully that contributed to ending the violent confrontations between the mining communities and the mining companies.eg Kenyase.

• Youth Vote Coalition, 2008
This project was executed prior to the 2008 elections together with party youth wing leaders for peaceful election and encouraging young people to register and vote in the 2008 general elections.

• Youth and National Budget Advocacy
This project has built the capacities of youth leaders on the national budgeting process to enable youth leaders analyze the budget, make input into the budget and track the effective implementation of some programmes in the national budget.

• Youth Peace Contact Groups
This project brings together young people from different chieftancy gates, religious groups and political persuasions to work towards peace in the Upper West Region. One core activity of the PCG is to develop and maintain early warning mechanisms against the break out of violence in their communities.

• Research on ‘Youth and Oil & Gas Governance’
This is a nation-wide survey that aims at measuring the following:
-expectations of the youth on the oil and gas sector
-how the oil revenue should be utilized
-the level of appreciation of the oil and gas issues among young people
-the level of participation of young people in decision-making on oil and gas issues

• National Youth Policy Advocacy
Following our success in the youth policy advocacy leading to the adoption of the national youth policy, the youth mainstreaming campaign aims at ensuring the effective implementation of the National Youth Policy.

Who We Are

Founded in January 2001 as a youth-led non-governmental, not-for-profit organization, Youth Network for Human Rights & Democracy (you-net) has worked tirelessly to build the capacities of young people to participate actively in the governance of their communities.
